Educational Opportunities for Licensed Insurance Agents
In 2017, the Director of the Ohio Department of Insurance sent a memo to all
licensed Property Insurance Agents in the state of Ohio reminding them of their duties
in regards to using the Ohio FAIR Plan. In that letter, the Director encouraged agents
to be familiar with the Ohio FAIR Plan in order to assist applicants when insurance
products were not available to them in the standard market.
The Ohio FAIR Plan (OFP) has Department of Insurance approval for Classes/Seminars
for licensed insurance agents’ continuing education. The Department of Insurance has
approved How to Use the Ohio FAIR Plan for 3 continuing education credits.
The course outline for this class includes: history of OFP, evolution of OFP coverages,
coverages available, underwriting criteria, OFP’s impact on insurance in Ohio, and the
Ohio Mine Subsidence Insurance Underwriting Association.
